Last week, Poker in the Park festival V took place in Hanover Square in London where poker players from distant places gathered and participated. Well known from the world of poker participated and gave helpful advice during the question and answer session held there. Apart from these sessions, the event witnessed sit and go tournaments and presentations.
The biggest event at the poker festival was announcement of British Poker Awards, which took place on Saturday 3rd September. The awards were hosted by female comedian Lucy Porter along with Michael Caselli and Jesse May. Nominations for the awards had been announced last month and people invited to vote on various categories.
Several awards were announced as well as given away in various categories during the Main Event including Best international Player, Best Online Player, Player of the Year and special awards for blogs, forums and social media users.
Jason Mercier who played well and won many events last year was awarded the Best International Player award. The Best Tournament Player and Best Cash Player awards were won by Jake Cody and Sam Trickett this year. Cody who won the Player of the Year award was best suited for the win following his World Series of Poker bracelet win in the $25,000 HU tournament.
Matt Perrins was awarded the Best Breakout Player award and it came as no surprise following his bracelet win during the summer. The Best Mixed Player Award was won again by Richard Ashby while the best PLO Player Award was claimed by JP Kelly.
Apart from these individual awards, the Best Poker Forum award was won by TwoPlus Two.com. The Best Blogger award was given away to Neil Channing while the Best Social Media User award was won by Vicky Coren. Champions Poker Leage got the Best Poker League award.
