I personally love the game of Video Poker, especially Jacks or Better, simply because they are very rewarding. It is not impossible at all to win a lot of money as long as you play using the right set of Video Poker strategy. We’ve talked about hand frequency before, so in this part we are going to talk about how you can use the knowledge to help you stay profitable playing Video Poker online.
Based on the Video Poker hand frequency we’ve discussed earlier, it is very easy to determine which hand to pursue when you are playing Jacks or Better. All you need to do is look at the hand frequency and the kind of return you can expect from the hand and you will be able to determine the right hand to pursue.
Let’s say you have a hand of 10-10-J-Q-K, which hand should you pursue? Would it be better to keep the pair of 10s and pursue a Three of a Kind, or is it better to keep the 10-J-Q-K and see if you can make a Straight out of it? Most beginner video poker players will naturally keep the 10-J-Q-K and try to make a Straight. Although this is a good approach nonetheless since a Straight pays more than a Three of a Kind, the percentage of return based on the hand frequency simply says that it is better to keep the pair of 10s and hope another 10 shows up to make a Three of a Kind; you have better odds of winning this way.
